And a new health mission seems like the perfect opportunity...
I've always loved the idea of maintaining a regular blog, but I just haven't baked it in to my routine concretely enough to make it consistent...
...yet
I'm giving it another try, as I've come to understand in my 33 years that you always have a chance to begin anew. What are some of those expressions? Fall down 7 times, get up and start blogging again 8? Something along those lines...
The format: a weekly update.
I am a Leo star sign, one that loves to be in the spotlight! But even so, I am not so self-occupied to expect anyone to be interested in my life just because... so I will be writing about what I'm up to through a lens of health and wellbeing. I think this works well seeing that those topics are such a natural interest and focus for me anyway. As the owner of a Pilates business, wellbeing and health is a thread that runs through my business, clientelle and lifestlye. I hope that documenting my own personal journey of wellness might be interesting at the least, and maybe even useful too.
I love, LOVE, that feeling of a new start, a change of pace, routine and intention. I'm all over 1st January - such fresh opportunity for projects and goals and intentions, I really enjoy that energy. There's a mini January feeling his time of year, if you have any involvement in the academic calendar - summer marks a change of pace and routine. September along with fresh uniform and stationary is classically another new beginning, and going into Autumn is my favourite time of year too, so I'm buzzing with anticipation, focus and optimism!
1st August is the start-line for this new health mission. I emphasis health here, as I will be losing some weight over the next few weeks, but I'm keen for that not to become the sole focus ad there are truly deeper underlying health markers that I'm aiming to improve here - lemme' do a lil bullet-point list here:
Break the fast dopamine-inducing cycle associated with hyper-palatable foods.
I have had an 'interesting' history regarding my relationship with food. Sometimes I recognise things feeling a little frantic. I want to re-set my dopamine settings, and calm everything down, calming my nervous system and food- relationship to a steady and balanced nutritionally-driven input.
2. Re-balance my blood-sugar and hormone levels
I have P.C.O.S and insulin sensitivity, so I should be very careful about what I'm eating regarding blood-sugar level spikes etc. Cruelly, the condition also makes you CRAVE sweet foods even harder. no fair! I havn't been being as careful as I should with the condition, so I want to re-focus on this element, and manage my food (and lifestyle) to best support my body's needs regarding this condition....
3. I wanna look great!
By not optimally eating to what my body needs, it has triggered my P.C.O.S symptoms, the hormonal imbalances have caused me to put on some body fat, and deteriorated the condition of my skin for example. I am currently the heaviest I have ever been (apart from pregnancy!) and I am really looking forward to getting back to a body composition that leaves me feeling glowy and sassy! 😁✨
4. Mental health
I am lucky enough not to suffer too badly with mental health on the whole. However I am prone to bouts of feeling low, and more than anything I can suffer with real brain fog and fatigue which suuuuucks! I have been known to crash and literally fall asleep mid afternoon, lethargy is such a horrid feeling. I am confident that this too will be addressed when I'm properly fuelling my body and better managing my hormonal condition.
So, what's the plan?!
Good question!
An initial 12 week 'hard-focus'
1 Aug - Oct half term
Nutrition: Minimal processed foods, loads of water. Gluten-free. Just steady, satiating, highly nutritious, fresh (mostly veggie) gut-friendly meals.
Exercise: I'm feeling good about my current exercise, I walk every day to school and to the studio, I do reformer Pilates daily (sometimes 10 mins, sometimes 2 hours!) I jog once (ish) a week and I also go to the gym a couple of times to stremgth train, do fitness classes or swim. So I just gotta keep that up!
Sleep: Get a good amount of sleep, and a healthy wind-down (no instagram scrolling!) routine
Mindfulness: I will be taking up a daily journalling, meditation & manifestation practise - 20 mins max to write down how I'm feeling, how I will be feeling and to sit quietly without distraction to calm my whole body's sytem and give me a chace to let things be settled and focused. Also - I had a super lightning bolt change of mindset recently about bold self-love and self-cheerleading and I have felt GREAT ever since! I was being pretty mean to myself before-hand so I am determined to continue this recent mindset shift of bold self-confidence (would highly recommend)
Documentation: I will be tracking (either daily or weekly, not sure yet) my weight, body fat %, mood & feelings along the way. I'll be doing a weekly blog post about what I'm up to, and any health 'stuff' that I've been learning about or thinking about along the way...
After the 12 weeks, I hope to have got myself into a more steady maintenance routine so I can continue on my way with my best health routine in place, and a good blogging routine wired in too!
So - let's go!
My first full week of my re-focus is on holiday (road-tripping with my daughter Lyra in france) so a strange way to start something new, but perhaps it's kinda' good to start out of routine in a strange setting to get things going hey?
I just gotta avoid the daily croissants,
Wish me luck!
I'm really interested if anyone else is on a similar journey, or has been in the past - leave a comment and let me know where you;re at!
I'll check in after a few days
