Well, so much for consistency challenges: I have somehow left TWO whole weeks go by without doing a journal update - never mind! I think the key is not to use that as an opportunity for any towel-throwing-in but instead just pick it up and get back on it...
So here I am, a snappy update from the life of a Pilates teacher
Weekend 18/19 Feb
What a day, what big day for letting go of things...like practically I mean.
Heart-wrenchingly, after around 6 years or so, today marked the day that I no longer have a motorbike *silent cry* I sold my gorgeous Kawasaki W650 to a lovely rock n' roll couple in their late 60s who I have no doubt will get much more miles out of it than I have been able to do, due to me being a fair-weather rider only and also having a pregnancy and baby in amongst the motorbike ownership period!
The good news is, that the funds will be the last bit I needed to 'plug the gap' and get the Sherborne reformer studio built and decorated and open!
The other thing I said goodbye to were the two little fishies who have been residing in my gradually-crumbling pond in the back garden. The guy who collected them couldn't have been a more perfect match, he was so passionate about all things fish, it was actually so heartwarming.
So bikes and fishies re-homed I set about getting furniture and bits and bobs for the studio. A beautiful sunny Sunday took me to Glastonbury to pick up a shoe rack (exciting) so whilst there, Danny and I made the most of the early start and the weather climbed the tor, followed by a delightful prose of the witch shops and a turmeric latté before heading back to Sherborne.
Monday 20th
Lyra had an extra day off school so we ventured over to Bovington to see a friend of mine and her baby daughter
Tuesday 21st
Back to school and work! I had a fair amount of marketing work to catch up on after half term week, so I made some good progress o that and also had a catch up at the studio about next steps and plans!
So, good news is that after we realised a pesky tap was DRIPPING on the floor we were trying to dry out (doh!) it was quite a quick turnaround after that had been mopped up.... yup I was literally sponge and bucket mopping up puddles from my new studio floor, picture that when we're in there doing a side living series in the future!
Anyway, new floor is level - next steps are: electrics / wall tidying up / decorating / laminate floor laying / then reformers in and dressing the space! I
I'm aiming for a 25th March open day fyi.... (fingers and toes crossed)
Wednesday 22nd
So, I've been experiencing some really horrible lethargy and energy , or rather, lack of energy symptoms recently. Headaches, severe tiredness, falling asleep at 7pm, or in the afternoon - all very unlike me!
Aside from getting it checked out, it has also prompted me to re-boot my focus on nutritional and lifestyle ways of naturally managing my P.C.O.S and hormone balancing. I found out I had PCOS around 5 or 6 years ago. Through lifestyle changes (blood glucose regulation, minimising dairy alcohol and caffeine, de-stressing, reducing exposure to toxins, and taking some herbal supplements for example) I managed to regulate my cycle and fall pregnant.
However in the years since I have slowly slipped back into...well an overall very healthy lifestyle on the whole, but with a bit more cheese, wine and coffee than my body can unfortunately handle with this condition (boooo, no fun!)
Anyway point is, PCOS or others I was feeling pretty lethargic today, I cannot TELL you how much teaching my evening class boosted my energy and mood, just getting out, moving and connecting to others felt so good. That's why I love Pilates so much!
Thursday 23rd
Another day of planning Kore Pilates studio and then teaching in the evening! Usually L is with her Dad on these days, but there was a schedule clash, so she was with me, and my lovely mum, dad and nan all came over to entertain her (with fish and chips) whilst I spilled out to teach for an hour.
