Not to start on a heavy note or anything but isn't time and the passing of it just the strangest thing? Is this what happens in your thirties, you start thinking about time and life and death? I saw a TikTok the other day which presented this scenario:
' name all eight great-grandparents. You can't? Hm yes, you see, you will be forgotten and it will happen pretty quickly.' Holy sh*t, I mean, I don't know, not that I particularly want to be remembered or anything, but that idea that our loves our fleeting and insignificant has stayed with me all week.
ANYWAY, that's a pretty dreary way to start the week round-up isn't it?! Aside from an existential crisis, I've had an okay week!
Weekend 21/22nd
Lyra's Dad and I broke up when she was a little over one, I have spent the majority of my parenthood doing it in a (really positive, supportive and friendly) co-parenting capacity. But it means that every other weekend I have a weekend essentially to myself. I have been struggling a little bit with this lately, missing her, struggling with the transitions and having an almost mild separation anxiety feeling. This weekend was a kid-free one, so I really try and embrace them, enjoy the lie-ins, freedom and rest which comes with not having a four year old around. Went to Southampton this weekend to spend it with Danny and his family. Saturday we went to Romsey for brunch, a 2nd hand book shop browse, and we intended to do a nice walk but the ground was way too flooded and swampy so we gave up that idea and went home for a run instead.
His sister had a birthday celebration it was so nice to visit an Italian restaurant where he used to work 10-15 years earlier, the team - and even some regulars - remembered him, it was really heart-warming. And if the hearts weren't warmed enough there was a proposal!! Not mine, chill out, his sister and partner got engaged after well over 10 years together, was lovely to be part of a special moment. D & I stuck around afterward to enjoy a pre-Burn's Night whiskey in the bar.
The following day was a super floppy lazy Sunday - my fave! After coffee, career chatting and reading D&I went out to get some supplies for a Chinese new year themed evening.
We played a complicated but very engaging card game called Mhing, then cooked up some Chinese food (we love cooking!) and watched the film Ip Man, which I thoroughly enjoyed actually. I don't know much about Chinese culture, but I don enjoy learning little bits and tapping into these events throughout the year - anyone who knows me will know I enjoy a themed meal / evening. 2023 is the year of the water rabbit, it's set to be a lucky year for most people (thank goodness) with the wise rabbit representing a quiet patience, this year is about using wisdom and patience to our advantage. If you don't know your Chinese birth sign, you can find it out here - I am a metal goat/sheep.
Monday 23rd
Left Southampton and drove back to Sherborne, where I saw the lovely Kelly at La Petite Salon for my bi-annual (I should really work on being higher maintenance haha) hair cut and colour. She is SO good, and I really enjoy catching up whilst I'm there too. Ver happy to pick up my little lady from school and we enjoyed a peaceful Monday afternoon and evening colouring, reading and watching some tv.
Tuesday 24th
I decided to kick off my 30 day 'Pilates and Pavement' challenge this week, because a random Tuesday mid-month is obviously the most logical day to start a challenge...ha. I'm aiming to get out for a 3km walk or ideally run every day, plus doing some Pilates practice for myself - not teaching or planning. Do I want some physical changes? Of course, I'd love to work on my strength and flexibility, I love the feeling of challenge. But more so, I noticed how good I FELT back in October whenI was running 3km every day and I want that feeling back. I felt accomplished, my mood was better for getting fresh air every day. I'm documenting my daily shenanigans on instagram and TikTok should you wish to follow - the accountability really helps me!
After school, we drove to my friend's house for a cup of tea and to drop off my shakti mat for her to borrow. Lyra ad I enjoyed a food shop afterwards (how exciting!) and headed home for food and bedtime shortly afterwards, we enjoyed looking at the super skinny crescent moon in the sky.
Wednesday 25th
The most treacherous walk to school on what felt like ICE! We somehow made it there, albeit not on time. I taught my 7pm Pilates class, and loved having a nice chatty group in.
Thursday 26th
What a lovely start to my day! My 9:30am class (I love the morning classes, I can't wait to get more of these on in the studio!) ran with my two regulars, and then Caroline and I hit the tarmac for a walk and chat with a view to ticking off the 3km target, but ended up smashing a good 5km, and even took in a Bean Shot coffee en route.
Made it home just in time to log in and deliver my 'Thursday Club' Pilates session on instagram live - I spent the rest of the afternoon filming, editing and uploading this Youtube Pilates Class. Now look, I've dabbled in Youtube before, and I have along way to go - I stumbled on my words, and didn't upload the right version with a nice little outer - BUT I'm starting, and that's the main thing - and you watch this space as my skills and output gets slicker along the way!
Friday 27th
It's Friday morning as I write this, coffee in hand. Today's tasks include finishing off some marketing work for my clients, attending a school-parent meeting and then going for ice-cream! I think Danny has an alien movie in mind for tonight, so wish me luck!
Kore biz updates:
I will also be refreshing my email inbox every 5 minutes as I eagerly await an update from the solicitors dealing with the hiring of the retail unit here in Sherborne for the new KORE Pilates studio! I am just so so so excited to get the ball rolling with this project, and find myself holding off on certain things (updating the website, contacting other local teachers etc) until I have keys-in-hand. I just spend all my time day-dreaming about what I will do with this small, intimate, Pilates boutique studio space will hold small equipment classes, reformer classes (hallelujah!) and hopefully some other local wellbeing classes like yoga and tai chi... I'm planning on doing some MAD launch offers locally, so hopefully lots of people sign up to the newsletter and follow me on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
In line with this I will also be launching KORE Virtual Studio, streaming three or so LIVE Pilates classes every week. These will be super super value, and even tied into the physical studio memberships to get my clients as much Pilates bang for their buck as possible!
I will probably launch the virtual studio for FREE(!) or close to, like £5 for a month or something to kick it off, so please spread the word and keep in touch for updated. A lot happening in the next few weeks for my Pilates people!
This Week:
Grateful for: sMy gorgeous, lovely marketing clients who have been patient with me as I've been struggling with workload lately!
Highlight moment: Honestly, that tiramisu on Saturday evening...*drool*
I learnt: I have been doing some research on cortisol and exercise & weight management...
I struggled with: Walking in the ice haha!
Word of the week: appreciation
Recommendation of the week: This instagram page is all about REST. Reminding us to slow down, listen to your bodies. I love the anti-hustle vibe and I need the reminders, often. I aspire to have this level of peace as a baseline.
Signing off ✌🏻
